VLP's First Meeting of the 2003-04 Year on Friday, Sept. 19th

Interested in making a difference in the local literary/arts community and/or building your résumé? Come to a meeting of the Vermillion Literary Project in Dakota Hall 201 (English Department) on Friday, September 19th and find out more about what the VLP does.

The VLP offers lots of options. You might choose to be on the editorial staff of our literary magazine (or, how about designing it and laying it out in QuarkXPress?). Or, you might help to advertise and run the monthly poetry readings, the short-story contest, the poetry festival, or other events that do. Or you might be our president and represent us at Student Association meetings. Or, you might help maintain our website or be involved with our weekly radio show, Project Radio. Or, maybe, you've got some new ideas to share! We welcome you, no matter what your major is, whether you're an undergraduate or graduate student. No experience is required. The only requirement is that you be a current student at the University of South Dakota.

VLP Open-Mic Reading and Poetry Slam Thursday, August 28th

The VLP August open-mic reading and poetry slam will be held at the Coffee Shop Gallery at 24 W. Main Street in downtown Vermillion, beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 28th. Bring your own writings to share or just come and listen and enjoy good coffee.

The first part is open-mic with people getting up to share their poetry, short-short-fiction, and other creative pieces.

As soon as the open-mic ends, the POETRY SLAM begins. This is a competition for poets. For more information, visit http://www.usd.edu/~projlit/poetryslam.html. Slammers should bring at least two poems and plan to arrive early.

This reading is free and open to the public. We hope that you'll be there!
