Melissa Houghton, a USD English major who graduated this past spring, received a Fulbright Scholarship in 2004. Currently, Melissa is in Korea, using her 13-month Fulbright Teaching Assistantship as a classroom instructor.

Melissa, in addition to to receiving the Fulbright, earned the USD English Department's John G. Dow Award in May, given to only one graduating English major each year. Melissa was also very active in the Vermillion Literary Project, participating in the VLP poetry slams and helping to organize the VLP's many events.

Melissa is the daughter of Gail and Gary Houghton and a graduate of Sisseton High School. For details about the Fulbright, see this USD announcement:
