Upcoming Literary Events
For those of who are or will be in the Vermillion area on these dates, these events may interest you. . . . . March 3, 4:00: Ken Waldman, Alaska's Fiddling Poet, will be giving a poetry reading/musical performance on Thursday, March 3, at 4:00 p.m. in Farber Hall (Old Main) on the USD campus. Waldman, a former college professor and a nineteen-year Alaska resident, has had more than 400 poems and stories published in national journals, including several appearances in SOUTH DAKOTA REVIEW. Waldman has worked full time for a decade as Alaska's Fiddling Poet. His two full-length poetry collections are published by West End Press and distributed by University of New Mexico Press. His three CDs have received widespread airplay. Though he still performs solo on occasion, he sometimes teams with other musicians when he headlines such venues as Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis, or for festival or concert series appearances. Waldman's visit to Vermillion is made possible by a grant from the South Dakota Humanities Council. March 16, 4:00: Jeanne Emmons, author of a volume of poetry titled ROOTBOUND, and a Professor of English at Briar Cliff University, will be giving a poetry reading on Wednesday, March 16, at 4:00 p.m. in Farber Hall (Old Main), on the USD campus.
