Poetry Reading by Nebraska Poet and Prose Writer Jim Reese

English Ph.D. graduate of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, will read from his work on Thursday, March 30th at 4:00 p.m., in Old Main's Farber Hall. His books include Wedding Cake and Funeral Ham, The Great American Road Show, The Jive, and These Trespasses. He will join the English Department faculty at Mount Marty College in Yankton in Fall 2006.

Women's Choice(s): Vermillion Literary Project featured reading

Invited women academics from the U will present selected readings by various women authors, scholars, and writers exploring reproductive rights issues. The reading will take place Thursday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m. at the Coffee Shop Gallery, 24 W. Main Street, downtown Vermillion, and will be followed by a brief open-mic reading and a poetry slam. Slam poets should bring at least three poems; prizes will be awarded.

Colloquium lecture by Marina van Zuylen Against Leisure: Uses and Misuses of Time in George Eliot's Novel Middlemarch.

A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Marina van Zuylen is a professor of at Bard College in New York and a specialist in nineteenth-century literature. She will speak on Monday, April 3rd in Farber Hall, Old Main, at 3:00 p.m.

Poetry Reading and Book Signing by Julie Sheehan

Julie Sheehan has published two prize-winning collections of poems: Thaw (Fordham University Press, 2001) and Orient Point (W. W. Norton, 2006). Her work has also appeared in a variety of prestigious periodicals and anthologies. She is a graduate of the MFA program at Columbia University. She will read her work on Thursday, April 13th at 3:30 p.m. in Farber Hall, Old Main.
